Ahead of the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part One, the film’s distributor Lionsgate has released the first official shots of the Rebels, who gather under Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) as she takes the fight for freedom directly to the Capitol. The group is formed of previous game survivors and refugees from the isolated districts, now under brutal oppression from the central government after Katniss disrupted the most recent tournament in Catching Fire.
The thematically linked posters showcase Gale, Katniss’ best friend and sometime-romantic interest, played by Liam ‘brother-of-Thor’ Hemsworth; Boggs, the right-hand man of Julianne Moore’s Commander Coin, played by Mahershala Ali; Cressida, a director and former resident of the Capitol who documents Katniss’ journey, portrayed by Natalie Dormer; her assistant Messalla, Evan Ross; and Cressida’s camera crew Pollux and Castor, Elden Henson and Wes Chatham respectively.
While the posters don’t give anything away about the film’s events — at least, nothing beyond what fans of the series will already know — using the iconography of the bird in flight to give the characters angel wings is certainly striking.
Mockingjay, Part One opens in the UK on 20 November.
Matt Shakman makes his directorial debut with the pic about a former high school star athlete turned mechanic (Hemsworth) whose plan to escape his small Montana town with his girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) leads to a deadly series of events.
John Malkovich, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Dern, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Oliver Platt also star in the Roberto Patino-scripted film that premiered this summer at the LA Film Fest.
Financing came via Kilburn Media and the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation. Laura Rister, Edward Zwick, Mickey Barold, Mark Manuel, Ted O’Neal, and Dan Cohen are producers. Entertainment One Films International is distributing in Canada and selling international rights.
“Cut Bank” will screen Sept. 10 at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival in the Contemporary World Cinema program. A24 plans a 2015 release in collaboration with DirecTV.
John Malkovich, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Dern, Teresa Palmer, Michael Stuhlbarg and Oliver Platt also star. Matt Shakman directed from Roberto Patino’s screenplay about an athlete-turned-auto mechanic who dreams of getting out of Cut Bank, Montana and discovers a murder.
Armie Hammer had initially been attached to play the role. Hemsworth came on board just before shooting started last year in Edmonton.

BUYER: Liam Hemsworth
SELLER: Matthew Wilder
LOCATION: Malibu, CA
SIZE: 1,980 square feet (as per assessor) 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Last year his older brother, action flick actor Chris Hemsworth, laid out $4.8 million for fellow Australian Paul Hogan’s freshly rehabbed estate in Malibu’s Point Dume area. Now — so swears real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak on her back stock of Lee Press On Nails — young Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth recently and surreptitiously shelled out a very grown up $6,814,000 for singer/songwriter Matthew Wilder’s multi-acre Malibu compound.
Check out Variety’s gallery for more details.
Your Mama dissed and discussed the property at some length nearly a year ago when Mister Wilder first listed the almost 7.5 acre spread with an asking price of $6.85 million so we’ll suffice to stick to just a few brief details. A long, gated drive crosses a creek and gently winds its way deep in to the compound to the front of 1950s era ranch-style residence worked over in a modern-organic manner with polished concrete and reclaimed wood floors, entire walls of multi-paned windows and doors and new-fangled high-tech systems.
The three bedroom and three bathroom residence is of undetermined size — the L.A. County Tax Man pegs it at 1,980 but that seems a bit on the wee side to Your Mama — and includes a over-sized entrance gallery combination living/dining room with brick fireplace, an adjoining sitting room, a step down den with catty-corner fireplace, and an eat-in kitchen with small lounge and commercial grade appliances as well as a walk-in fridge with frosted glass doors.
The back of the house opens to a roomy, multi-level deck that steps down to a simple, rectangular swimming pool and large, well-watered lawn. Other features of the property, as per listing details, include a professional grade recording studio, a detached writing studio, and a concrete barn/gallery.
